- Metaphor
- is the symbolic representation of he structure you've attempting to build
- act as a familiar visual aid which you construct the entry-way, interiors, doors and windows of your environment
- ex.:
- the visual aids (icon, graphics, text, etc.,) that help represent a function or features
- Clarity
- every element on a page should have a reason for being there
- furthermore, that reason should be apparent to he visitor
- Consistency
- consistent design means carrying an interface's features through the entire site
- guide lines are as follows:
- the symbol you use should remain intact as users move through the site, creating a sense of familiarity
- use the same graphics, font, shadow type and size and so on... these elements should be the same
- maintaining a consistent color palette
- keep constant navigation style and position
- working with fonts carefully
- should have the same font face, size, count and color for your site
- Orientation
- use Header to identify yourself in the page
- page location is important
- headers that defines the page's identity are Clearly available
- use Footers
- placing the site's name / location and other important links can help alot to the end-user
- Navigation
- where on the site do you put navigation ?
- top, bottom, left, right are the most common, but combinations are often used
